1. Shipping & Freight Delivery

How are large storage sheds and truss shelters delivered?

Many of our larger products, including metal sheds, single-truss shelters, double-truss storage shelters, garages, and other oversized equipment, are shipped using commercial freight carriers.

Before placing your order, please be prepared to confirm four important details:

  1. Forklift Availability: Do you have access to a forklift or other suitable equipment to unload your shipment?

  2. Delivery Address: Is your delivery location residential or commercial?

  3. Weekday Availability: Can someone accept delivery Monday through Friday during normal business hours?

  4. Liftgate Service: If you do not have a forklift, have you selected liftgate delivery service when available for your product?

Large storage shelters may arrive in heavy crates, pallets, or multiple packages. Proper unloading arrangements help prevent delivery delays, additional fees, and unsuccessful delivery attempts.

Do I need a forklift to receive my storage shelter?

Many of our larger sheds, garages, and truss shelters require a forklift or suitable unloading equipment.

The unloading requirements depend on the size, weight, packaging, and shipping method of the product.

If you do not have access to a forklift, please select and purchase liftgate delivery service at checkout when that option is available.

Please be aware that some oversized or exceptionally heavy products cannot be unloaded using a standard liftgate and will still require a forklift or other appropriate equipment.

If you're unsure, contact us before ordering.

What is liftgate delivery service, and when should I purchase it?

Liftgate service is an optional freight delivery service in which the carrier uses a hydraulic platform attached to the delivery truck to lower eligible freight to ground level.

If you do not have a forklift or loading dock, we strongly recommend purchasing liftgate service whenever it is offered for your selected product.

Important information:

  • Liftgate service may require an additional fee.

  • Not all products qualify for liftgate delivery.

  • Some oversized sheds and shelters require a forklift regardless of liftgate availability.

  • Liftgate delivery generally does not include moving the shipment into your garage, backyard, building, or storage area.

  • Liftgate service must be selected when available and is not automatically included with every freight shipment.

Please contact Home Outpost Supply before ordering if you need assistance determining whether liftgate service is appropriate.

Can you deliver a storage shelter to a residential address?

Yes! Many of our outdoor storage shelters, metal sheds, and garages can be delivered to residential addresses.

However, residential freight deliveries may require additional coordination or charges.

Please accurately identify your address as residential or commercial during checkout.

You should also confirm that your driveway or delivery location can safely accommodate a large freight truck and that appropriate unloading arrangements are available.

Can I have my storage shelter delivered to a commercial business address?

Yes. Commercial freight delivery is available for many of our products.

Commercial addresses with loading docks, forklifts, or designated freight receiving areas may offer easier unloading options.

Please confirm whether your business has suitable unloading equipment and can receive deliveries during normal weekday business hours.

Can I receive my storage shelter delivery on Saturday or Sunday?

Most freight carriers deliver Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

Weekend deliveries are generally not available unless specifically arranged and confirmed by the freight carrier.

Please ensure someone is available to accept and unload your shipment during weekday delivery hours.

How long does shipping take from Home Outpost Supply?

Our general shipping timeframe is approximately 6–11 business days, including order processing and transit.

Actual delivery times depend on the product, supplier, shipping location, freight arrangements, weather, and carrier availability.

Oversized shelters, garages, and specialty products may have different shipping timelines.

Please review the product information and our shipping policy for applicable details.

Will the freight company contact me before delivery?

Freight carriers may contact customers to coordinate a delivery appointment, particularly for large residential shipments.

However, scheduling practices vary by carrier and shipment.

Please provide accurate contact information when placing your order and remain available to coordinate delivery.

What happens if I cannot unload my shipment?

If your shipment requires unloading equipment that is not available when the freight carrier arrives, delivery may be delayed or unsuccessful.

Additional delivery, storage, redelivery, or other freight charges may apply.

To avoid problems, please confirm your unloading capabilities before placing your order.

If you do not have a forklift, purchase liftgate service when offered and confirm that your product qualifies for it.

What should I do if my storage shelter arrives damaged?

Please inspect your shipment as soon as it arrives.

If you notice visible damage, document it on the delivery receipt before signing, take photographs, and contact Home Outpost Supply promptly.

Shipping damage must be reported within 48 hours of delivery.

Keep the original packaging, labels, and damaged materials until you receive instructions from our support team.

Contact support@homeoutpostsupply.com with your order number and photographs.

What is the difference between a single-truss and double-truss storage shelter?

The primary difference is the structural frame design.

Single-Truss Shelters

Single-truss shelters use individual truss assemblies to support the structure. They can be an economical and practical option for many storage applications.

Double-Truss Shelters

Double-truss shelters use paired truss assemblies designed to provide additional structural strength.

Depending on the manufacturer and model, double-truss designs may offer greater load capacity for snow and wind.

However, structural performance varies by product. Always compare the manufacturer's published snow and wind ratings rather than relying on truss type alone.

View our Guide to Single vs. Double Truss Shelters

Are double-truss storage shelters better for heavy snow?

Double-truss shelters may be a good option for locations experiencing significant snowfall, especially when the manufacturer provides appropriate snow load ratings.

However, not all double-truss shelters have the same snow capacity.

Before purchasing, compare the shelter's documented snow load rating with your local building requirements.

Proper installation, anchoring, inspection, and snow maintenance remain essential.

What type of storage shelter should I buy for winter weather?

When selecting an outdoor storage shelter for winter conditions, consider:

  • Manufacturer-rated snow load capacity

  • Wind resistance specifications

  • Frame construction and materials

  • Covering material and durability

  • Anchoring and foundation requirements

  • Local building codes

  • Maintenance and snow removal requirements

A shelter should be selected based on your property's specific weather conditions, not simply its dimensions or appearance.

Does Home Outpost Supply sell 30x40 storage shelters?

Yes! Home Outpost Supply offers selected outdoor storage shelters in popular sizes, including 30-foot by 40-foot models.

A 30x40 shelter provides a nominal footprint of approximately 1,200 square feet.

These structures may be suitable for storing vehicles, farm equipment, machinery, trailers, and other large belongings, depending on their interior dimensions and door clearance.

Browse Available Storage Shelters

Does Home Outpost Supply sell 20x40 storage shelters?

Yes. Our outdoor storage selection includes 20x40 shelter options, including selected double-truss designs.

A 20x40 structure provides a nominal footprint of approximately 800 square feet.

Review individual product listings for current availability, structural ratings, door dimensions, and pricing.

Do you sell large commercial storage shelters?

Yes. Home Outpost Supply offers selected large-format storage shelters suitable for agricultural, commercial, and equipment storage applications.

Our product selection includes structures in sizes such as 40x80, 50x80, and other large configurations.

For commercial applications, please confirm local code requirements, engineering documentation, structural ratings, and unloading needs before purchasing.

Are fabric storage shelters better than metal sheds?

Both types of storage structures offer advantages.

Fabric Storage Shelters

Fabric-covered shelters can provide substantial covered storage space and may be suitable for large vehicles, equipment, machinery, and agricultural applications.

Metal Sheds and Garages

Metal structures feature rigid wall and roof panels and may be preferable for certain enclosed storage applications.

The best choice depends on your intended use, climate, budget, installation requirements, and maintenance preferences.

Can I use a storage shelter for tractors, boats, RVs, and equipment?

Many storage shelters can accommodate tractors, boats, recreational vehicles, trailers, and other equipment when the shelter provides adequate space and clearance.

Before ordering, measure your equipment carefully, including attachments, mirrors, antennas, and accessories.

Compare your measurements with the manufacturer's listed interior dimensions and door opening.

What size outdoor storage shelter should I buy?

The correct size depends on what you plan to store and how much additional space you need for access and movement.

For example:

  • 20x20: 400 square feet

  • 20x30: 600 square feet

  • 20x40: 800 square feet

  • 30x40: 1,200 square feet

  • 30x50: 1,500 square feet

  • 40x60: 2,400 square feet

These are nominal footprint calculations. Actual usable interior space may be smaller.

Always review the exact dimensions, door clearance, and manufacturer specifications before ordering.

3. Shelter Assembly, Installation & Foundations

Are outdoor storage shelters difficult to assemble?

Assembly requirements vary depending on the size and design of the shelter.

Smaller structures may be suitable for experienced DIY customers, while larger shelters may require multiple people, specialized tools, lifting equipment, or professional installation.

Always follow the manufacturer's installation instructions and safety requirements.

Does Home Outpost Supply provide shelter installation?

Unless specifically stated in the product listing, installation services are not included with the purchase.

Customers are generally responsible for site preparation, assembly, anchoring, and any necessary professional installation services.

Do I need a concrete foundation for my storage shelter?

Foundation requirements vary by product.

Some shelters require concrete foundations or engineered anchoring systems, while others may use manufacturer-approved alternative anchoring methods.

Always review the installation requirements for your selected shelter and consult local building authorities when necessary.

Do I need a building permit for an outdoor storage shelter?

Permit requirements vary by state, county, municipality, structure size, and intended use.

Some shelters, sheds, garages, and commercial structures require permits, zoning approval, or engineering documentation.

We recommend contacting your local building department before ordering or installing your structure.

Are outdoor storage shelters waterproof?

Many fabric-covered shelters are designed to resist rain and weather exposure.

However, water resistance depends on the product's covering material, seams, doors, installation, and maintenance.

Review the manufacturer's specifications to understand the weather protection offered by your selected product.

How long does an outdoor storage shelter last?

A shelter's service life depends on its materials, construction, environmental exposure, installation quality, and maintenance.

Some products include manufacturer warranties on specific components, such as frames or coverings.

Always review the manufacturer's warranty and maintenance recommendations.

Can I leave my storage shelter up year-round?

Some outdoor storage shelters are designed for extended or year-round use, provided they are properly installed and maintained within their rated conditions.

Check the manufacturer's specifications, snow and wind ratings, anchoring requirements, and maintenance instructions before relying on a shelter for year-round storage.

4. Returns, Refunds & Product Warranties

What is the Home Outpost Supply return policy?

Eligible products may generally be returned within 30 days of delivery, subject to our return requirements.

Products must typically be unused, uninstalled, unmodified, and returned in their original packaging.

Prior return authorization is required.

Some products have different return conditions or restrictions.

Please review our complete Return & Refund Policy before ordering.

Does Home Outpost Supply charge a restocking fee?

Approved standard returns of non-defective products are generally subject to a 25% restocking fee.

Customers are typically responsible for return shipping costs for non-defective merchandise.

Different terms may apply to qualifying damaged, defective, missing-component, or incorrect-item claims and to products with specific return conditions.

Can I return a storage shelter after assembling it?

Products that have been assembled, permanently installed, anchored, modified, or used generally do not qualify for standard non-defective returns.

We recommend carefully reviewing product specifications, dimensions, and delivery requirements before ordering.

Do your sheds and storage shelters include warranties?

Certain products include manufacturer warranties.

Warranty coverage, duration, exclusions, and claim procedures vary by manufacturer and model.

Please review the warranty information provided with your selected product or contact us for assistance.
